SECOND FIRE AT VACANT BUILDING UNDER INVESTIGATION
June 25, 2008
A NFD general alarm was transmitted just before 1:00am reported working structural fire at 6 Vanderbilt Place. This was the scene of a fire back on May 28. Unexcelled Engine 34-4-75 was the first due engine, and stretched a 1.75" line. Engine 34-3-76 established a water supply as additional units arrived and were assigned by the incident commander, Assistant Chief Robert McDonald. The fire was suppressed using two handlines. Primary and secondary searches were negative. One firefighter was injured and transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by Neptune First Aid. The fire is under investigation by Neptune Fire Bureau.

FIRE IN 3-FAMILY HOME CONTAINED TO ONE ROOM

Neptune's Volunteer Appriciation Day was interrupted when firefighters was dispatched to 131 Leonard Avenue for a structure fire. Upon arrival found a 2-story three family home with heavy smoke throughout. Firefighters forced entry and quickly located a 1-room fire on the first floor. The fire was suppressed by Liberty Fire Company members. Primary searches and fire extension was performed by the crew of Unexcelled's Engine 34-4-75. No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation by Neptune Fire Bureau.
EARLY MORNING FIRE IN VACANT 2-STORY HOME
May 28, 2008
A NFD general alarm was transmitted shortly before 4:00am for a reported working structural fire at 6 Vanderbilt Place. Assistant Chief McDonald was first to arrive and reported heavy fire from the "D" side. Unexcelled Engine 34-4-75 was first due and stretched a line to the "D" side. A partial collapse of the second floor was visible. Two additional handlines were stretched. Ladder 34-1-90 vented the roof. The fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes. No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation by Neptune Fire Bureau.
UNEXCELLED FIRE COMPANY RECEIVES AWARD FROM ASBURY PARK FIRE DEPARTMENT

Asbury Park Fire Department held their annual Memorial Day Ceremony and Awards presentation. Numerous awards were presented for Meritorious Acts of bravery, including recognition to the Unexcelled Fire Company for actions during a high rise fire on September 20, 2007.
An intense fire on the 14th floor of Munroe Towers on Sewell Avenue in Asbury
Park trapped numerous civilians who occupied the nearby apartments. APFD arrived
and successfully rescued an unconcious occupant of the fire apartment. Unexcelled's
34-4-75 responded as the first mutual aid engine and joined the team of Asbury
Park firefighters. Numerous civilian rescues were made by these firefighters.
The fire, which was difficult to access, was ultimately located after APFD firefighters
were forced to breach a masonry block wall. Seven firefighters were injured. Unexcelled firefighters who operated at the scene were Lieutenant Daniel Harker, Lieutenant Joseph Mauro, FF Chip Megill, FF Francis Sutphin and FF Louis Carlson.

Unexcelled Fire Company was dispatched along with Station 2 and Station 1 to a "possible" structure fire at 293 Drummond Avenue. The call came it just after 5:00 pm. The first due engine, 34-2-75 arrived and reported a working fire. A general alarm was transmited. 34-2-75's crew stretched a line and made entry. Unexcelled's engine 34-4-75 arrived and established a water source. The crew assisted the hose team and began outside ventilation - removing the boarded up windows. The first due truck 34-1-90 went to the roof and opened up, as Unexcelled's engine 34-76 (acting 34-4-90) performed primary and secondary searches. FIRE ON THE BORDER QUICKLY SUPPRESSED
May 14, 2008
Unexcelled Fire Company was dispatched to a "possible" structure fire at West Grove Square on Main Street in Neptune. The fire was actually located at 212 Memorial Drive, just over the border of Neptune in Asbury Park. Engine 34-4-75 was the first fire unit on scene. A fire was burning in an old dilapidated addition to a masonry commercial building. One line was stretched and operated, suppressing the fire. No injuries were reported. Unexcelled and APFD firefighters operated for approximately 30 minutes.

Phil was elevated to "Firefighter" status at a Company meeting held on April 14. Williams has worked and trained hard, and has proven himself over this past year while also attending college. UNEXCELLED'S RIT RESPONDS TO ASBURY PARK
February 17, 2008
Unexcelled Fire Company was called to 1410 Fourth Avenue in Asbury Park at
around 6:30am for a fire in a single family private dwelling. APFD firefighters
were able to quickly suppress the fire. 34-4-75 was assigned as the RIT team.
No injuries were reported, and the crew from Unexcelled was released at approximately
7:00am.
VOTERS APPROVE QUESTION TO PURCHASE AERIAL TRUCK
February 16, 2008
The Unexcelled Fire Company wishes to thank the citizens of Neptune Township
for voting YES and approving the purchase of a new ladder truck. The question
seeking approval of bonding for $950,000 for purchase of aerial truck was
approved
543-419. A new ladder truck
will replace a 1980 American LaFrance 100' Aerial that is presently out of
service and retired.
UNEXCELLED ENGINE 34-4-75 RESPONDS TO
OCEAN TOWNSHIP APARTMENT BUILDING FIRE
January 25, 2008
The Unexcelled Fire Company was dispatched for a cover assignment to Wanamassa
Fire Company just before 5am. Shortly after arrival to the cover, Engine 34-4-75
was relocated to the scene of a 2-story apartment building with heavy fire conditions
throughout. The Unexcelled crew assisted Oakhurst, Wanamassa, Fort Monmouth and
other area firefighters in battling the blaze.

The Unexcelled Fire Company responded to 1328 Asbury Avenue in Asbury Park for
a structure fire. Initially reported as a "dryer fire", the fire quickly spread
upward in the 2-1/2 story private dwelling. Unexcelled firefighters worked with
APFD's "Tour 3" to quickly bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported.
Liberty Fire Company and Fort Monmouth Fire & Emergency Services were both
on

ASBURY PARK

Unexcelled Firefighters responded mutual aid shortly before 1am to 406 Seventh
Avenue for a structure fire. Upon arrival, fire was racing through a 3-story
occupied multiple dwelling. Asbury Park firefighters were making an aggressive
attack as the Unexcelled crew was assigned as the RIT team. However, Unexcelled
Engine 34-4-75 was ordered to reverse lay to a nearby hydrant and provide water
to Asbury Park Tower Ladder 83-89. As the fire intensified, suppression efforts
transitioned into a defensive mode. As the fire darkended down, Asbury Park and
Unexcelled members entered and suppressed remaining pockets of fire. Unexcelled
Fire Company was released from the scene shortly before 6am.
WOMEN EXTRICATED FROM CAR VERSUS
POLE ACCIDENT
10/15/07
Fire and EMS units found a one vehicle versus utility pole accident. The accident
was along the NJ Transit rail lines. Firefighters from Unexcelled Engine 34-4-75
stretched a precautionary hoseline, stabilized the vehicle and popped the drivers
side door using a porta-power spreader. Neptune City Fire Department also responded
and assisted with vehicle extrication. The victim was removed and transported
to JSUMC.
KITCHEN FIRE QUICKLY SPREADS AND
CAUSES EXTENSIVE DAMAGES TWO FAMILY HOUSE
10/14/07
A report of a kitchen fire was quickly upgraded to a working structure fire at
1507 Corlies Avenue (State Highway 33). The first due engine, Unexcelled Engine
34-4-75, encountered heavy fire on the first floor of a 3 story, two family house.
34-4-75 quickly had water on the fire and performed primary searches. 34-2-75
arrived
and
stretched
to
the
exposure C (rear) and put water on a large volume of fire that was consuming
an exterior
wood stairs. Ladder 34-1-90 opened up. 34-3-76 laid supply line to the hydrant.
There were no injuries on scene. Fire fire was brought under control with 45-minutes.
Also on scene was Ocean Grove, Neptune City, Avon Fire Departments and South

Asbury Park Fire Department's tour #3 joined Unexcelled Firefighters in forcible
entry training. The training was conducted in Neptune and included conventional
forecible entry techniques using the "irons" and the hydraulic Hydra Ram tool.

FF Steve Mitchell is presently in Franklin, ID assigned to the
Stockdale Fire. Steve is assigned to fire crew #NJS-1 and his team
is presently
building and maintaining fire lines and performing mop-up operations.
They are expected to be on this fire throughout today and possibly
tomorrow. We will track Steve's progress and keep our visitors
posted.
UNEXCELLED ENGINE 34-4-75 ASSISTS OCEAN GROVE FIRE DEPARTMENT
07/15/07
Shortly after 1000 hours, Engine 34-4-75 was special called into Ocean Grove to assist in suppressing a Volkswagon van that was fully involved. The fire involved the van's engine, which was constructed of magnesium. The magnesium ignited and intensify the fire when water was applied. 34-4-75 applied a blanket of foam to the fire, which assisted the Ocean Grove firefighters in ultimately suppressing the fire.
NFD CAREER FIREFIGHTER STEVE MITCHELL OFF TO BATTLE WILDFIRES IN THE WEST

Career Firefighter Steve Mitchell departed for Utah today as part of a nation wide mobilization of firefighters called to fight wildfires in the western United States. FF Mitchell left with other members of the NJ Forest Fire Service. They departed from Harrisburg (PA) enroute to Salt Lake City (UT), where FF Mitchell's crew was deployed to Wyoming. We will track Steve's progress and keep our visitors posted.

Shortly after 3:00am, Neptune Fire Department was dispatched to 104
Hollywood Avenue for a structure fire. Upon arrival, units found smoke
coming from the vacant 1-1/2 story private dwelling. Engine 34-3-76
was first due and quickly knocked down the main body of fire with a
1-3/4" hose line. Members of the Unexcelled Fire Company performed
ventilation and conducted primary searches. One minor injury to a firefighter
was treated on scene by EMS. The fire is under investigation by the
Neptune Fire Bureau and Neptune Police.
MUTUAL AID TO ASBURY PARK FOR FIRE ON BOARDWALK

The Unexcelled Fire Company responded mutual aid to The
Pizzeria at
800 Ocean Avenue in Asbury Park for a structure fire. The fire caused
damage to the pizzeria and cause smoke and water damage to the neighboring
Brielle Cyclery Shop and Tides Cafe. Unexcelled Engine 34-4-75 operated
on scene for approximately 30 minutes, along with Asbury Park fire
units. No injuries were reported. According to Asbury Park fire officials,
the
fire was
not
considered
suspicious.

Just after midnight, firefighters were called to a private dwelling on Brockton
Avenue and Bingham Street for a laundry room fire. Unexcelled Engine 34-4-75
was first due and quickly confined and suppressed the fire. Unexcelled Ladder
34-4-90 performed ventilation and was assisted by Liberty's Engine
34-2-75. No injuries were reported. Neptune First Aid and

REMEMBERING
FDNY FIREFIGHTER DANIEL F. PUJDAK WHO DIED IN THE LINE OF DUTY

Firefighter Pujdak, 23, was fatally injured this afternoon while battling an
all-hands fire at 83 Meserole Street in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn.
Preliminary reports indicate Firefighter Pujdak was operating on the roof of
a four-story
apartment building when he fell to the ground
and sustained critical injuries. He was transported to Bellevue Hospital
where he later succumbed to his injuries. For details, please click

Collapse. The course was held at the Monmouth County Fire Academy and was attended

ATTIC FIRE QUICKLY SUPPRESSED
04/23/2007
Shortly after 11:00 am, Neptune Fire Department was dispatched to 19 Roberts
Drive for a structure fire. Chief 34-66 arrived and confirmed a working fire
coming from the attic space of exposure B of a single family bi-level.
The first
due
engine was 34-74. They stretched a handline and made their way to the fire
area, along with the second due 34-1-75. Ladder
34-4-90
was
the first
due
truck and, upon arrived, immediately went to the roof to open up. The fire
was confined to the attic space, however, heavy damage to the second floor.
No injuries
were reported. Also on scene were Hamilton, Liberty and Shark River Hills Fire
Companies as well as Neptune OEM, EMS and PD.
FIREFIGHTERS SUCCESSFULLY FREE GIRLS ENTANGLED ANKLE FROM BICYCLE FRAME

Just after 2:00 pm, the Unexcelled Fire Company was dispatched to 408 Atkins
Avenue for a child with their leg stuck in a bicycle frame. Upon arrival, firefighters
found a 6 year old female had her ankle lodged between the bicycle frame and
the crank arm of a bicycle. The crew from Engine 34-4-75, using an air powered
Whizzer Saw, cut the bicycle frame and were able to successully free the girls
ankle. Also assisting on the scene were Neptune PD, Neptune Public Works and
Neptune EMS. The victim was

to
Jersey
Shore
University
Medical
Center
by
EMS
with
minor injury.
MCBRIDE AVENUE HOME HEAVILY DAMAGED BY FIRE
04/06/2007
While operating at a CO call on Winding Ridge, NFD units were dispatched to a report of "heavy black smoke" inside a dwelling on McBride Avenue. 34-2-75 was first to arrive. They stretched a handline and attacked the fire, which was blowing out an exposure B window. 34-4-75 arrived and assumed first due truck duties. The crew performed OV and vented the roof. The engine boss assisted the interior crews with the thermal imaging camera by checking for fire extension and searching for life. The fire was quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported on scene. The fire is under investigation by the Neptune Fire Bureau.
CONTAINER TRAILER FIRE IN OLD TOWNSHIP
DUMP SUPPRESSED
03/20/2007
A brush fire was reported on the ball fields off West Bangs Avenue just before
7:00 pm. The NFD Chief arrived and confirmed that a 40-foot storage container
located in the Old Town Dump was burning with heavy fire throughout. The surrounding
area was extremely muddy and hard to access with fire apparatus. Unexcelled Engine
34-4-75 arrived, along with Liberty Engine 34-2-75. 34-2-75 accessed a dirt road
and made it as far as 100 to 150 -feet before the fire, at which time they became
stuck in the mud. Two handlines were stretched off of 34-2-75 by Liberty and
Unexcelled members. The firefighters forced entry into the container and suppressed
the
fire. The fire is under investigation by the Neptune Fire Bureau and Police Department.
Neptune First Aid was also on scene and treated an injured firefighter.

LATE NIGHT BLAZE CONTAINED ON MYRTLE
AVENUE
03/08/2007
Just before midnight, the Neptune Fire Department was dispatched to
320 Myrtle Avenue for a reported structure fire. The first due engine,
Unexcelled's Engine 34-4-75, arrived and found a fire on Exposure B
auto extending up from the first floor to the second floor and roof
soffit of a 2.5 story occupied multiple dwelling (OMD). The crew stretched
an 1-3/4 line and began fire suppression. A second line off 34-4-75
was stretched by firefighters from 34-2 and also assisted with fire
suppression. Unexcelled Ladder 34-4-90 arrived and performed primary
and secondary searches and placed portable ladders. Shark River Hills
Engine 34-3-76 provided a water supply and Hamilton Ladder 34-1-90 vented
the roof. No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation
by the Neptune Fire Bureau. Also on scene was Neptune EMS, OEM and PD.
FIRE ON 9TH FLOOR QUICK SUPPRESSED
AT HIGH RISE APARTMENT BUILDING
03/06/2007
At 0317 hours, the Unexcelled Fire Company responded to a fire alarm
at Sebastian Villa on West Bangs Avenue. While enroute, the Assistant
Chief arrived and reported a smoke condition in the lobby. A general
alarm was transmitted. Engine 34-4-75 arrived and was advised that the
alarm was coming from the 9th and 10th floors. 34-4-75's crew ascended
to the 9th and 10th floors via the stairwell to investigate. Smoke was
found on both floors. An investigation determined a fire in the trash
compactor shaft that had been knocked down by the shaft's sprinkler
system. Other incoming NFD companies assisted with evacuation. Ladder
Company 34-4-90 assisted with overhaul and water spill control. There
were no injuries and no fire extension. Other agencies on scene included
OEM, EMS, and Neptune Police. The fire is under investigation by the
Neptune Fire Bureau.
UNEXCELLED MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN FIREFIGHTER RESCUE TRAINING

Unexcelled members participated in firefighter rescue training presented by Firefighter Rescue, Inc. The class began with a classroom session, then transitioned to hands-on evolutions. Utilizing a 3 story vacant building, members were able to learn various techniques for locating and removing firefighters who could become injured while operating inside structure fires. Special thanks to retired FDNY Rescue Firefighters Paul Hashagen and Bruce Newbury and present FDNY Firefighter Francis Fee, of Firefighter Rescue, Inc. for a tremendous presentation.
HEAVY FIRE UPON ARRIVAL AT 11TH AVENUE
2-FAMILY HOUSE
02/19/2007
Unexcelled Fire Company was dispatched at 1737 hours to a reported
house fire at 1309 Eleventh Avenue. While pulling out of the firehouse, units
observed
a
huge
column
of smoke
and
a
general alarm was transmitted. Unexcelled Engine 34-4-75 arrived at the 2-1/2
story dwelling. They encountered heavy smoke from the top area of the dwelling
and heavy fire out the rear. Crews stretched a line and proceeded to the second
floor. An aggressive interior attack commenced, with the crew seeing good progress
in knocking down the fire inside. However, they were unaware that the fire had
already penetrated to the open attic space above them and began consuming the
roof
and
far
rear of the building. Unexcelled Ladder 34-4-90 arrived and immediately began
opening up and preparing to enter to search for life. As
the
fire
intensified,
it
became
necessary
to
evacuate
interior crews and transition into a defensive attack. Additional
units
arrived,
including
Liberty
Engine
34-2-75, Hamilton Ladder 34-1-90
and
Shark River Hills Engine 34-3-76, members were ordered to take position with
additional handlines and a water monitor for exterior operations. Ladder 34-4-90
also went into master stream operations. The IC transmitted a second alarm, which
provided mutual aid to provide coverage for Neptune. South Wall Fire-Rescue 52-3-86
responded as the RIT. The fire was brought under control after about 2 hours.
One firefighter was injured and was transported to Jersey Shore Regional Trauma
Center. The fire is under investigation by the Neptune Fire Bureau. Also on scene
were Neptune Police, Neptune EMS, Neptune OEM, Neptune DPW, NJ Natural Gas and

Division responded to 2043 Milton Avenue, off of Neptune Boulevard. While enroute,
the incident was upgraded to a "stove fire". 34-74 arrived and found a working kitchen fire in the second floor apartment. The crew on 34-74 stretched an 1-3/4" hoseline
and quickly suppressed the fire. The second due engine, Unexcelled Engine 34-4-75,
arrived and immediatelty performing primary searches, checked for extention
and opened up. Unexcelled Ladder 34-4-90 was also on scene. There were no injuries.
The fire is under investigation by the Neptune Fire Bureau.

Neptune Fire Department responded to a structure fire at Sanitary Linens
located at Sixth Avenue and Memorial Drive. NFD Career Engine 34-74
and Unexcelled Engine 34-4-75 were the first units to arrive. Lines
were stretched and a quick, aggressive attack of the fire ensued. The
fire was contained to the first and second floor just inside the exterior
walls. Hamilton Ladder 34-1-90 opened up. Shark River Hills Engine 34-3-76
handled water supply. No injuries occured. The fire is under invetigation
by the Neptune Fire Bureau.
UNEXCELLED'S FAST TEAM SENT TO HUGE
SEA BRIGHT FIRE

The Unexcelled Fire Company's Rapid Intervention Team was dispatched
to assist the Borough of Sea Bright for a huge occupied multiple dwelling
fire. The fire originated and affected "Building B" of the
Fountain Condominum off Ocean Avenue. One civilian was badly burned
and four firefighters were injured. Firefighters were forced to operate
in freezing conditions. Unexcelled Firefighters provided RIT coverage
to members of the Red Bank Fire Department as they extinguished pockets
of fire in the upper floors. Once completed, 34-4-75 was reassigned
to provide fire protection coverage for the Borough of Sea Bright, along
with Hamilton Fire Company Engine 34-1-75.
NEW 2006 PIERCE ENGINE PLACED IN SERVICE

NEPTUNE, NJ: The Unexcelled Fire Company took delivery of the new 34-4-75 on Thursday, January 11. The 2006 Pierce is the last of four engines purchase by the Neptune Fire District Board of Fire Commissioners within a year. Members had researched and planned on equipment layout and mounting for months, prior to taking delivery. They had also trained on the first new engine that was received earlier by Station 1. In less than 48 hours, the unit was equipped and ready for fire duty. 34-4-75 responded to its first run at approximately 1800 hours on January 12, a fire alarm on Monroe Avenue.
FIRE IN 2-FAMILY DWELLING SUPPRESSED

NEPTUNE, NJ: Shortly before 4:00am, Unexcelled Firefighters responded to a structure
fire at 213 Drummond Ave. Upon arrival, fire was blowing out the second floor
window on the "B" side. Unexcelled's engine crew stretched an attack
line and made an aggressive advancement into the dwelling. Nozzleman Andre Butler
and
backup Joey Mauro encountered an extreme fire condition, and under the command
of Lt. Danny Harker with Probie Nick Megill entered and suppressed the fire.
Unexcelled's ladder crew performed primary and secondary searches and vented
the roof. Additional crews from the second alarm assignment located additional
fire
in the lower level of the dwelling. The fire was placed under control within

minutes.

NEPTUNE, NJ: Members and their families will soon be attending the annual Christmas Party and Awards Ceremony Dinner, which will be held on December 22. During this event, the Company will reveal the receipient of the third annual Firefighter of the Year Award, one of the Company's most prestigious honors. ANTICIPATION BUILDS AS NEW ENGINE IS APPROACHING FINAL COMPLETION

APPLETON, WI: The Neptune Fire Department will soon be taking delivery of two new engines. These two engines will be #3 and #4 out of four purchased in 2006 for each of the four company's within the department. The new 34-4-75 will replace our beloved 1989 American LaFrance, formily known as "Engine 54". Plans are underway within the company for mounting and compartmentizing of the equipment. Members recently visited several Brooklyn firehouses to gather ideas and preplan ways to make the most of all space on the new rig. The new 34-4-75 is expected to be placed in service in January 2007.
TWO RESCUED FROM ELEVATOR

NEPTUNE, NJ: Unexcelled firefighters responded to the Omni Building for an elevator emergency shortly after 4:00 pm. Upon investigation, it was determined that an elderly man and a woman were trapped between the first and second floor inside the elevator. Members were successfully able to extricate both victims from inside the elevator without incident.

ASBURY PARK, NJ: Members of the Unexcelled Fire Company had the opportunity to enhance their firefighter rescue skills in a 3 story vacant building in Asbury Park City, courtesy of the Asbury Park Fire Department. Members trained on scenario rescues through the long hallways and maze-like layout of this structure. Many of the newer members received exposure to the many challenges associated with rescuing firefighters.

NEPTUNE, NJ: Shortly before 5pm, a general alarm was transmitted for a fire on
the 8th floor of the 11 story Sebastian Villa Apartments on West Bangs Avenue.
Unexcelled Engine 34-4-75 was first due engine company. The crew, equipped with
extra hose, spare cylinders, forcible entry tools, etc. ascended the stairs to
the eighth floor. The fire was contained to a couch within the apartment. The
fire was knocked down with a water extinguisher and ultimately supressed with
a hoseline attached to the standpipe system. Units on scene included Unexcelled
Ladder 34-4-90, and other NFD units Engine 34-3-75, 34-2-75 and Ladder 34-1-90.
Neptune PD, OEM and EMS were also on scene. There were no injuries. The fire
is under investigation by the Neptune Fire Bureau.

ASBURY PARK, NJ: Unexcelled firefighters and members of the Asbury Park Fire
Department participated in firefighter training at two (2) vacant buildings.
Members practiced ventilation techniques and various uses of power saws. The
drill concluded with firefighter rescue techniques, specifically "Ladder
as a High Point" removals and firefighter escape - bail out from a 2-story
dwelling.
AUGUST 14TH A BUSY DAY FOR NEPTUNE FIREFIGHTERS

NEPTUNE, NJ: Shortly after 3:00 am, Unexcelled and other NFD firefighters suppressed
a fire in 2-story occupied apartment building (see below). Later, at apparoximately
3:30 pm firefighters were called to Winding Ridge Drive for a structure fire.
NFD units arrived to find a heavy fire condition on the 2nd floor of a OMD condo
complex. The fire was quickly suppressed with limited extension. Several other
calls were handled throughout the day and evening and at approximately 9:00 pm,
firefighters were called to 1613 Sewell Ave. Heavy smoke was throughout
this
1-story private dwelling. Crews from 34-4-75 and 34-4-90 effectively vented,
searched
and suppressed the fire, which was located in the basement. There were no injuries
at any of these fires. Along with Unexcelled, the other NFD companies that operated
were Hamilton (34-1), Liberty (34-2) and Shark River Hills (34-3).

NEPTUNE, NJ: Firefighters were called to Housing Authority apartments on Alberta
Avenue shortly after 3:00 am for a reported fire in the attic. Prior to arrival,
PD reported a working fire - at which time Chief Mitchell (34-66) transmitted
a 2nd alarm. Engine

due,
arrived
and
stretched
a hoseline to the second floor of the 50 X 150 2-story OMD. First due truck 34-4-90
arrived and went right to the roof. The fire was quickly suppressed and searched

negative. No injuries were reported and the fire is under investigation. Other

UNEXCELLED RIT CALLED TO ASBURY PARK STRUCTURE FIRE

ASBURY PARK, NJ: Shortly after midnight, the Unexcelled Fire Company was requested mutual aid to assist our brothers in Asbury Park. A fast spreading fire in a private dwelling on Asbury Avenue was quickly contained and suppressed by APFD firefighters. The crew from Unexcelled Engine 34-4-75 served as the R.I.T. crew. No injuries were reported and the fire is under investigation by APFD.

Our members have many friends within the FDNY and maintain a close relationship and train together several times a year. 9/11/01 was a very tragic day, one that saw the loss of some of the best, the bravest and the smartest firefighters in the world! Unexcelled Fire Company will pay tribute to the 343 members of the New York City Fire Department who were killed by dedicating a memorial at our firehouse in their memory. NFD RETURNS TO OCEANVIEW SUB-STATION AS RECORD DEMANDS FOR ELECTRICITY CONTINUE

NEPTUNE, NJ: As the excessive heat wave continued, JCP&L once again required the services of the Neptune Fire Department to cool the two transformers that provide electrical power to several surrounding communities including Neptune. NFD was assisted by a water tender from Navy Weapons Station Earle Fire Department and one from Wall Township. The two tenders shuttled water to the site, has firefighters operated hoselines and cooled the transformers.
OCEANVIEW SUB-STATION REACHES ITS LIMIT

NEPTUNE, NJ: Unexcelled Fire Company joined Hamilton Fire Company and the NFD
Career Division in assisting JCP&L with cooling down two large power tranformers
that were exceeding their heat limitations. Fire units operated in the 100+ degree
temperatures for approximately 3 hours, lowering the temperature significantly
using

streams. This
situation had the potential of losing power to over 40,000 homes.
CAR FIRE ON ELEVENTH AVE EXTINGUISHED, DAMAGE TO POLICE CRUISER

NEPTUNE, NJ: Unexcelled Engine 34-4-75 and Career Division Engine 34-75 responded to 11th Avenue between Highway 35 and Ridge for a 1995 Chevy Caprice on fire. As fire and police units arrived, the pressurized struts for the engine hood exploded as a result of the heat from the fire and shot outward over 150 feet, landing on a NPD cruiser. There were no injuries, but the cruiser sustained a cracked windshield and a dented front fender. The fire was suppressed without incident. BE CAREFUL!

from numerous towns operated in temperatures ranging from the mid to high 90's.

Natural Gas line break on State Highway 35 and Drummond Avenue. Upon arrival
a heavy odor of natural gas was detected blowing in a northerly direction, the
result of a broken line by a track hoe. Forced to operate in temperatures upwards

KITCHEN FIRE SUPPRESSED ON WAKEFIELD
ROAD
05/30/06
NEPTUNE, NJ - Unexcelled Fire Company was dispatched to a reported stove
fire at 524 Wakefield Road. Shortly after dispatch, the incident was upgraded
to a
structure fire. 34-4-75 was first due.
Upon
their
arrival,
heavy
smoke
was
visible.
Command was established by Captain McDonald. The crew stretched a 1-3/4" line
and advanced to the kitchen area. Utilizing a thermal imaging camera, the fire
was located and suppressed without incident.
Searches and ventilation were conducted. There were no injuries. The fire damage
was held to the kitchen, although the home did sustain smoke damage. Also on
scene were Shark River Hills Engine 34-3-75, Liberty Engine 34-2-75 and Hamilton
Tower Ladder 34-1-90. The fire is under investigation by the Monmouth County
Fire Marshals Office.
BRUSH FIRE EXTINGUISHED AT OLD TOWN DUMP

NEPTUNE, NJ - Unexcelled Fire Company responded to a reported brush fire
inside the old township dump off of Neptune Boulevard and West Bangs Avenue
at approximately

a tire on fire. Engine 34-4-75 accessed a dirt road to the fire and extinguished
the blaze before it could spread through the large open area of adjoining "cat
tails". 34-4-90 and 34-3-75 were also on scene. The fire is under investigation
by the Neptune Fire Prevention Bureau.
2 ALARM FIRE IN NEPTUNE
05/11/06 (1st Responder News)
NEPTUNE, NJ - The Neptune Fire Department was dispatched at 4:54 p.m. on May
11, to 1229 11th Avenue for a report of a structure fire. The first fire unit
to arrive (Engine 34-4-75) reported smoke from the second floor windows. The
dwelling was a 2-family, 2.5-story, wood-frame. Smoke
was emanating from apartment B's second floor A/D windows. The crew from
34-4-75 stretched a handline to the second floor and searched for the fire.
Engine 34-3-75 arrived and established a water supply. The crew from 34-3-75
stretched a second handline. A second alarm was transmitted, bringing in
Station 37-1 as the RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) and to provide cover assignments
township-wide. Units 34-1-90 and 34-2-75 arrived and assisted crews with venting
the structure and performing secondary searches. The fire was located in the
front bedroom and was quickly suppressed by the first-in handline. Primary
and secondary searches were negative. The
fire was brought under control within 10 minutes and no injuries were reported.
Neptune EMS, Neptune OEM and Neptune PD all assisted on scene. The Neptune
Fire Bureau is investigating.
MALCOLM KING VISTITS UNEXCELLED FIREHOUSE

Malcolm is 5 years old and will be travelling to Philadelphia for a bone marrow

Upon request of our friends with the Point Pleasant Beach Fire Department,
Lt. Colarusso and FF Mauro instructed about 15 firefighters on "Large Area
Search" techniques. The drill was conducted in a large open area within Jenkinsons

Cub Scout Pack 333 visited the Unexcelled Fire Company on
Corlies Ave in Neptune. Firefighters discussed fire safety and explained the
various responsibilities of firefighters. The scouts were also given a tour of
the firehouse and shown the engine and ladder trucks that are house at Unexcelled.
Lt. Daniel Harker and Lt. Donald Colarusso demonstrated the firefighters gear
and equipment including the air tank and mask. Also assisting with the presentation
